You Said Yes Before You Checked In With Yourself

You hear the notification.

Your phone lights up.

Someone you love needs something.

And almost instantly, your mind starts moving.

What happened?
What do they need?
How can I help?

Before you realize it, you're already thinking three steps ahead.

Planning. Solving. Carrying.

And the thing you promised yourself you would do today quietly moves to tomorrow.

Again.

In my last blog, I shared Sarah's story.

Sarah thought she had a time management problem.

She wondered why she started every day with good intentions and ended it asking:

"Where did my day go?"

What Sarah discovered was that her days weren't disappearing all at once. They were slipping away one small moment at a time.

The quick text she answered.

The problem she immediately tried to solve.

The request she automatically said yes to.

Little by little, she moved herself to the bottom of the list… Because the part of her that learned to keep everyone happy stepped forward.

And often, it responded before she ever had the chance to ask:

"What is actually happening right now?"

So the next time the text comes in…

the phone rings…

or you realize you already said yes before you even checked in with yourself…

Try this:

Pause.
Give yourself a moment before you respond.

Notice.
Ask: "What is actually happening right now?"

Feel.
Notice what is happening in your body.
Is your chest tight?
Is your stomach turning?
Are you holding your breath?

If it helps, place your hand on your heart and take one slow breath.

Listen.
Ask: "What message does my heart have for me right now?"

Choose.
Ask: "What step feels aligned?"
Then take that step.

Your next step may be simpler than your fear wants you to believe.

And the next time the phone lights up, remember:

Pause. Notice. Feel. Listen. Choose.

That small moment of clarity can be the moment you stop giving your day away.
